Anatomy of the diamond

Proportions, polish and symmetry, determine the intensity and brilliance of the diamond.

Clarity

Almost all diamonds contain tiny traces of pure, uncrystallized carbon., the element from which they were formed. Inclusions are called.

According to the number of inclusions it has, internal and external, its purity is considered, since the light reflects cleanly inside.

cut

The shape of the diamond is due to the cut or size of the rough diamond.

When we imagine a diamond, we usually figure a round brilliant cut. But nevertheless, many of the world's most famous diamonds are fancy-cut, like emerald, oval and heart.

More information

An expertly cut diamond will achieve high levels of brilliance and durability.. With the optimal proportions and angles it will be able to reflect the light perfectly.

A shallow cut, though it will create the illusion of a larger stone, allows light to escape from the sides rather than reflecting it from the top, creating a lack of shine and flare.

A deep cut does not reflect light, resulting in a dull and muted appearance.

Color

The most crystallographically and chemically pure perfect diamond is transparent, colorless (without any color), but few are like that.

The impurities of the diamonds or imperfections in their structure cause their color to vary and may have yellow tones, rojas, roses ... etc.

The Gemological Institute of America (FAMILY), the diamond certification authority, ranks diamonds by their color grade alphabetically from D (totally colorless) a la Z (polarized).

Carats

The weight of diamonds, is measured in carats (ct). One metric carat, corresponds to the fifth part of a gram. Therefore, the equivalence of carats to grams is 1 ct igual a 0.20 grams
